How to Use the Move Tool

Learn how to use SimpleSnip's Move tool to reposition a layer or selection on the canvas.

  1. Select the Move tool

Click Move in the toolbar, or press V.

  2. Pick a layer

Click the layer you want to move in the Layers panel. Only pixel layers can be moved; the locked Background layer can't.

  3. Drag it

Drag anywhere on the canvas to reposition the layer. Its off-canvas edges stay in memory, so dragging it back doesn't lose any pixels.

  4. Nudge with the keyboard

Use the arrow keys to move it one pixel at a time, or Shift+arrow for 10 pixels. Repeated nudges collapse into a single undo step.

  5. Move several at once

Select more than one layer first with Shift-click or Ctrl-click in the Layers panel, then drag: they all move together.

💡 Tip: If you only want to move part of a layer, make a selection first with the Select tool, then switch to Move: dragging inside the selection moves just those pixels.
