How to Resize and Rotate a Layer

Learn how to use Free Transform in SimpleSnip to move, scale, and rotate a layer or selection.

1. Select what to transform

   Pick a layer in the Layers panel, or make a selection first if you only want to transform part of it.

2. Open Free Transform

   Click Transform in the options bar while the Move or Select tool is active.

3. Move, scale, or rotate

   Drag inside the box to move it. Drag a corner or edge handle to scale it (hold Shift for uniform scaling, Ctrl to scale from the centre). Drag just outside the box to rotate it, and hold Shift to snap every 15 degrees.

4. Nudge with the keyboard

   Use the arrow keys to move the box one pixel at a time, or Shift plus an arrow key for 10 pixels.

5. Apply or cancel

   Press Enter or click Apply to commit the transform. Press Esc, Ctrl+Z, or click Cancel to back out and restore the original.

💡 Tip: Transforming a selection only moves the pixels inside it and leaves the rest of the layer untouched, which is a quick way to reposition just one part of an image.
