How to Pick a Color from an Image

Learn how to sample a color from your image with SimpleSnip's Eyedropper tool.

  1. Select the Eyedropper tool

Click the eyedropper icon in the toolbar, or press I.

  2. Click to sample

Click anywhere on the canvas. SimpleSnip reads the composited color at that point, everything visible there across every layer, and sets it as your foreground color.

  3. Watch the live preview

As you move the cursor, a swatch and hex code follow it so you can see exactly what you'd pick before clicking.

  4. Drag to scrub

Keep the mouse or your finger down and drag to keep sampling as you move, useful for finding the exact shade in a gradient.

  5. Use it from any color tool

You don't need to switch tools to sample a color. Hold Alt while using the Brush, Eraser, Shape, Fill, or Text tool to eyedrop instead of drawing.

💡 Tip: The sampled color becomes the shared foreground color, so it's immediately ready to use with the Brush, Shape, Fill, or Text tool.
