How to Pan and Zoom the Canvas

Learn how to pan and zoom the canvas in SimpleSnip using the Hand tool, scroll wheel, and keyboard shortcuts.

1. Zoom with the wheel

   Scroll your mouse wheel or trackpad over the canvas to zoom in and out. It zooms toward wherever your cursor is, not just the centre.

2. Pan with Space or the Hand tool

   Hold Space and drag with any tool active, or click Hand in the toolbar (or press H) to drag the canvas around without it.

3. Fit and reset

   Press Ctrl+0 to fit the whole canvas back into view. The zoom percentage shows in the bottom-right corner.

4. Pinch and pan on touch

   On a phone or tablet, pinch with two fingers to zoom, and drag with two fingers to pan, from any tool, without switching to the Hand tool first.

5. Zoom snaps in tight

   Above 200%, zoom snaps to whole numbers so each image pixel lines up exactly with a fixed number of screen pixels, useful for pixel-level touch-ups.

💡 Tip: Panning and zooming never affect your image; they only change what you're looking at, so feel free to zoom in as far as you like while you work.
